13.01.2025 - 19:15Switzerland may guarantee the Kremlin that it will not arrest Russian leader Vladimir Putin under the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant if he travels to the country to meet with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump,
Switzerland is legally obligated to detain Putin under the ICC arrest warrant issued in 2023 for his alleged involvement in the forced deportation of Ukrainian children. However, Nicolas Bideau, a spokesperson for Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the Swiss government has the authority to make exceptions for hosting peace negotiations.
It was recently reported that Switzerland has offered to host a meeting between President-elect Trump and Putin.
According to media reports, Mike Waltz, Trump’s future National Security Advisor, revealed that preparations for a meeting between Trump and Putin are already underway. Waltz added that a phone conversation between the two leaders might take place “in the coming days or weeks.”
