Trump has suspended aid to all countries for 90 days to assess its alignment with U.S. national interests

The new President of the United States, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order suspending all U.S. foreign aid programs for 90 days to assess their alignment with U.S. national interests and the goals of American foreign policy.

The order states that “the foreign aid industry and bureaucracy do not align with American interests and, in many cases, contradict American values,” and “serve to destabilize the world by promoting ideas in foreign countries that are directly opposed to harmonious and stable relationships within and between nations.”

Trump declared that “no further foreign aid should be allocated in a way that does not align with the foreign policy of the President of the United States.”

“It is not entirely clear what aid the order will affect, as funding for many programs has already been allocated by Congress and must be spent if it has not already been used,” AP commented on the order.

It is worth noting that Ukraine is one of the largest recipients of U.S. assistance. According to polls, more than half of Americans believe that U.S. spending on support for Ukraine is excessive.
