Negotiations on Ukraine may be combined with discussions on nuclear weapons control – The New York Times
27.01.2025 - 10:59The peace process for Ukraine is expected to begin in April or May.
This information reported according to Turkish newspaper Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi. The publication is known to have close ties to Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“It is anticipated that a peace negotiation table will be set up in April or May to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war,” Selvi wrote.
He added that a roadmap is currently being developed.
“First, a ceasefire will be announced. Then, sanctions against Russia will be reviewed,” the journalist predicted.
However, according to Selvi, it will not be possible to quickly resolve the issue of Ukraine’s occupied territories, suggesting they will remain under Russian control for the foreseeable future.
The columnist noted that both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin want peace, leaving Volodymyr Zelensky with “no choice but to remain at the negotiation table,” as U.S. support for him has supposedly been withdrawn. Selvi did not disclose the sources of his information.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Center for Countering Disinformation dismissed such reports in foreign media as inaccurate.
Andrii Kovalenko, head of the center, stated that there will be “a series of media publications featuring dates for the end of the war, months when negotiations will begin, and other speculations.” However, “at this moment, the information appearing in media across various countries does not correspond to reality.”
It is worth noting that leaks about “peace plans” have been increasing recently. One of them, actively discussed in Ukraine, also suggests a ceasefire by the end of April.
