31.01.2025 10:49Ukraine has been set back 100 years as a result of the war with Russia.
This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with American journalist Megyn Kelly.
“Ukraine has been set back 100 years; its energy system has been destroyed… And how many Ukrainians have left Ukraine and are now living in other countries? They may never return,” Rubio said.
He also believes that the administration of former US President Joe Biden gave false hopes about Ukraine’s return to pre-war borders.
“There is one lie – we were led to believe that Ukraine not only could defeat Russia, but also destroy it, pushing it back to the borders of 2012 or 2014, before Crimea and other territories. However, the reality is this: for a year and a half, Ukraine has been asking for funding to maintain a deadlocked, protracted conflict,” the Secretary of State said.
“The President’s position is that this is a prolonged conflict, and it needs to be brought to an end. And it should be concluded through negotiations. In any negotiations, both sides must give something up,” Rubio added.
According to him, “both sides have an incentive to end the conflict. It will not end with one side achieving maximalist goals.”
Furthermore, Rubio implied that the war in Ukraine has strengthened Russia.
“If you look at the world, I would say that in many cases, our adversaries are stronger than ever and have grown stronger over the last four years. Of course, Russia does not consider itself weaker than it was four years ago. Now they control territory they didn’t have when Donald Trump left office,” the US Secretary of State said.
Earlier, Rubio stated that ending the war and achieving lasting peace in Ukraine would become the official policy of the United States.
