04.02.2025 - 14:16In Poltava, local blogger and fitness trainer Roman Zavoloka was sentenced to six years in prison after swearing at and spitting on a Territorial Recruitment Center officer in the summer of 2023.
This was reported on Facebook by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Poltava region.
According to the SBU, the blogger “obstructed the lawful activities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other military formations. Moreover, he turned out to be a staunch supporter of Kremlin narratives about the war in Ukraine.”
According to the investigation, in the summer of 2023, Zavoloka, while in the center of Poltava, began provoking and using obscene language toward officials of the local military recruitment office. He spat at one of the military officers, who had returned from the front after suffering a concussion and multiple injuries due to a landmine explosion. The blogger accused the military of being responsible for the war in Ukraine and “killing people for money.”
Zavoloka filmed his actions and posted the video on Instagram.
He was charged under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 1, Article 114-1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations);
- Part 2, Article 435-1 (insulting the honor and dignity of a serviceman, threats against a serviceman);
- Part 2, Article 345 (threats or violence against a law enforcement officer);
- Parts 2 and 3, Article 436-2 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of armed aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and glorification of its participants).
In addition to a six-year prison sentence, Zavoloka was ordered to forfeit half of his property.
It is worth recalling that the blogger was detained on August 29, 2023, and resisted arrest, sustaining injuries. Telegram channels showed photos of him after his detention with a heavily bloodied face.
On September 1 of the same year, a court ruled to keep him in custody.
