Kyiv announced the number of Ukrainians willing to return after the war ends
13.02.2025 13:21Ukraine and some European countries have urged U.S. President Donald Trump to allow the use of $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to purchase American weapons.
Bloomberg reported this, citing sources.
The majority of these assets are frozen in Europe, and the lack of consensus among EU countries, which previously prevented their confiscation, remains unchanged. The main opponents of confiscation—Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium—fear financial instability, legal issues, and other risks.
However, Ukrainians and some Europeans argue to Trump that using these assets to compensate for U.S. military aid to Ukraine would benefit both the U.S. and American defense companies.
According to the publication, Trump does not support this idea.
It is worth recalling that in October last year, the G7 countries agreed on a mechanism for a $50 billion loan to Ukraine, funded by revenues from frozen Russian assets.
However, media reports stated that half of the promised $50 billion for Ukraine cannot be spent on purchasing weapons.
