Media report that the Pentagon chief did not rule out transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine
14.02.2025 - 09:15U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the conflict in Ukraine began because of Joe Biden.
His remarks were made during a press briefing, which was broadcast on Fox News’ YouTube channel.
Trump explained that the previous White House administration had promised Kyiv NATO membership. However, he noted that the recent comments by the new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, regarding the unrealistic nature of Ukraine joining the alliance accurately reflect Washington’s stance.
On February 13, Hegseth stated that he anticipates a frank discussion with NATO allies regarding the conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized that Washington does not consider Ukraine’s NATO membership as part of a potential peace agreement to resolve the conflict.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte backtracked on previous commitments to include Ukraine in the alliance. According to him, “It was never agreed that once negotiations begin, they will end with Kyiv’s accession.”
