Russia explained the meaning of possible negotiations between Putin and Zelensky
18.02.2025 - 14:04Ukraine is not currently negotiating with Donald Trump’s administration on mineral resource deposits but hopes that an agreement will eventually be signed.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna in a comment to The Guardian.
She said that Ukraine is “not currently engaged in negotiations to conclude an agreement” but acknowledged the existence of “processes” initiated by Trump. Stefanishyna added that Ukraine “has not rejected” the deal proposed by the U.S.
“We expect that it will be signed,” she assured.

It is worth noting that Volodymyr Zelensky refuses to sign the U.S.-drafted version of the agreement without security guarantees. According to statements from the Ukrainian side, the U.S. has received a revised version of the agreement with Ukrainian amendments. However, it remains unclear whether Washington will accept them.
Amid this situation, members of the Servant of the People party have suggested discussing a potential mineral resource agreement with China.
Earlier, European and Ukrainian officials told Financial Times that Zelensky made a strategic mistake by offering Trump rights to extract Ukrainian mineral resources without providing further specifics or demanding security guarantees.
