21.02.2025 09:14Michael Waltz, National Security Advisor to Donald Trump, has urged the Ukrainian authorities to lower their rhetoric and sign the U.S. version of the agreement on mineral deposits, as Washington considers them a security guarantee.
His statement was made during a broadcast on Fox News.
“Given everything America has done for Ukraine, they need to tone it down, take a close look, and sign this agreement,” Waltz said.
He stated that the White House is puzzled by Kyiv’s rejection of what he called “a truly historic opportunity to have the U.S. as a co-investor in Ukraine’s economy, its resources, and a genuine partner for Ukraine’s future in a way that would be the best security guarantee they could ask for.”
“We have done a lot for Ukraine’s security, and the fact that we want to change the nature of our assistance should not offend anyone. The president is ready to bring this war to an end,” Waltz said.
He reiterated that Trump intends to keep Ukraine at the negotiating table and emphasized that Trump’s call with Vladimir Putin does not signal favoritism toward Russia.
“We’ve engaged one side, we’ve engaged the other side, and then we will have a process moving forward under the leadership and guidance of President Trump,” said the U.S. advisor.
Earlier, Trump stated that Ukraine had sabotaged a deal on rare earth minerals and that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was treated “quite rudely” in Kyiv.
