28.02.2025 - 14:42For Europe to fully replace U.S. support for Ukraine if it were to be cut off, the EU would need to increase its contributions by an equivalent amount.
This information reported according to The Economist.
Since January 2022, the EU has spent €113 billion on financial, military, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which amounts to just over 0.2% of its GDP annually over the past three years.
To fully compensate for the loss of U.S. assistance, the EU would need to double its contributions to around 0.4% of GDP.
Finland is already spending at this level, and Denmark is contributing even more. However, these countries do not play a decisive role in supplying military aid to Kyiv.
Earlier reports indicated that Europe would be unable to replace certain types of U.S. weaponry.
