A Member of the European Parliament from Fico’s party stated that if Russia captures Kyiv, Slovakia will have a more reliable neighbor

Slovakia would have a more reliable neighbor if Russia were to capture Kyiv.

The statement said Erik Kaliňák, a Member of the European Parliament from the party of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as reported by Aktuality.

When asked by a journalist what it would mean for Slovakia if Russia took over Kyiv, Kaliňák responded that he would “be a cynic” and suggested that in such a case, Slovakia would gain a more reliable partner.

“If we analyze Slovak-Ukrainian relations, we can recall how many times we had to salvage them following economic conflicts between Kyiv and Moscow, and how many times Ukraine was unable to assist us. From this perspective, Russians appear to be more reliable partners,” he stated.

Kaliňák’s remarks have sparked sharp criticism from the Slovak opposition.

Previously, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico accused Ukraine of misappropriating European financial aid.
