The European Union questions the extension of the duty-free regime for Ukraine, risking economic partnership
26.03.2025 05:35Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced significant progress in negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding Turkey’s role in the peaceful resolution of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The meeting, which took place earlier, was marked by a historic step towards resolving the conflict, Tusk believes.
“We have approached Turkey with a proposal to actively participate in the peace process,” Tusk said after visiting Ankara.
According to him, the day before, negotiations were held between representatives of Ukraine and the USA in Saudi Arabia, where a proposal was made to organize a 30-day ceasefire, pending Russia’s agreement.
Tusk emphasized that Turkey and Poland are interested in achieving a fair peace and highly appreciated the outcome of the negotiations in Saudi Arabia. In response, Erdogan expressed Turkey’s readiness to provide a platform for peace talks and support in resolving the conflict.
Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Turkey has maintained a balanced position, avoiding direct confrontation with Russia while supporting Ukraine with military aid. Erdogan also expressed hope for Turkey’s entry into the European Union, emphasizing the strategic importance of this step in strengthening the EU’s position.
Tusk assured that Poland would actively facilitate the promotion of Turkey’s European integration issue. Both countries, which have some of the largest armies in NATO, are focused on strengthening defense cooperation.
