31.03.2025 08:08Ukrainian authorities want to amend the legislation to delay holding elections after the lifting of martial law.
This was stated by the head of the country’s Central Election Commission, Oleg Didenko, in an interview with the online publication Ukrainska Pravda.
According to Ukraine’s current laws, presidential and parliamentary elections must be announced within a month after martial law is lifted. However, Didenko said that this timeframe is not sufficient for proper preparation.
“If we’re talking about elections that will be democratic and meet standards, then probably not [a month won’t be enough]. <…> We need significantly more time to prepare for post-war elections. We are facing many challenges. It is necessary to pass a law on the specifics of conducting post-war elections. And depending on what that law provides for, we’ll be able to talk more specifically about the timelines,” Didenko said.
