08.04.2025 - 08:17European countries weigh future status of Ukrainian citizens in case of ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv.
This was reported by The Economist magazine.
Whether the EU directive on the status of Ukrainian refugees will remain in effect in the event of a ceasefire will be discussed at the level of EU interior ministers, stated Maximilian Kall, a representative of the German Ministry of the Interior.
According to him, a key condition for the return of refugees to Ukraine would be the absence of threats to people’s lives and health.
“The refugee status of Ukrainians remains in effect. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has always clearly stated that we will provide protection to those who fled Ukraine for as long as this terrible war of aggression continues,” Kall added.
Earlier reports indicated that millions of Ukrainian refugees in the EU might lose their legal status.
It was also reported that Germany plans to review the basic unemployment benefits currently received by Ukrainian refugees, according to media sources.
