10.04.2025 - 12:15New refugees from Ukraine will no longer receive the German basic citizen’s benefit (Bürgergeld); instead, they will receive lower asylum-seeker benefits.
This was reported by TAG24.
According to the publication, the CDU/CSU and SPD reached this agreement during coalition negotiations aimed at forming a new government.
Currently, Bürgergeld amounts to up to €563 per person per month, while asylum-seeker benefits are around €460 per person per month.
It’s worth noting that German tabloid Bild recently reported that the government is preparing to revise Bürgergeld payments for Ukrainian refugees.
Previously, it was also reported that Austria had canceled mandatory health insurance for Ukrainian refugees. The insurance coverage had been in effect since February 24, 2022, but was not extended beyond March 4 of this year. The cancellation affects 26,000 Ukrainian nationals, including children.
