U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russia is ready for a peace agreement, while reaching an agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is proving to be more difficult.
He made the remarks during a briefing in the Oval Office.
“I think Russia is ready, and many have said that Russia is willing to go all the way. And I think we have reached an agreement with Russia. We need to make a deal with Zelensky. And I hope Zelensky… I thought it would be easier to make a deal with him. So far, it’s been harder… But I think we’re dealing with both sides. I hope they do it, because I want to save the situation — and, as you know, we’ve spent a lot of money — but this is about the lives of many people,” Trump said.
It’s worth recalling that yesterday Trump sharply criticized Zelensky, accusing him of delaying the war in Ukraine.
The U.S. president also left open the possibility of a meeting with Vladimir Putin after his upcoming Middle East trip.
When asked whether he would meet the Russian president during his May 13–16 visit to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, Trump replied:
“It’s possible, but most likely not. I think we’ll meet with them shortly after that.”
