28.04.2025 - 12:48Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Brazil for the BRICS summit and outlined Moscow’s conditions for ending the war in Ukraine.
Lavrov detailed Russia’s demands in an interview with the newspaper O Globo.
The Russian side’s conditions are as follows:
-
Ukraine must repeal its “legislative ban on negotiations with Russia”;
-
Ukraine must not become a member of NATO and must maintain a neutral, non-aligned status;
-
There must be “an overcoming of the consequences of the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv, including its actions aimed at the legislative and physical destruction of all things Russian: language, media, culture, traditions, and canonical Orthodoxy”;
-
There must be “international recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea, Sevastopol, the ‘Donetsk People’s Republic,’ the ‘Luhansk People’s Republic,’ and the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.”
Lavrov emphasized that “all of Kyiv’s obligations must be legally formalized, include enforcement mechanisms, and be permanent.”
Additionally, the Russian minister stated that on the agenda are the “tasks of Ukraine’s demilitarization and denazification, the lifting of sanctions, the cancellation of lawsuits and arrest warrants, and the return of Russian assets frozen in the West.”
Finally, Moscow seeks to obtain “reliable security guarantees against threats created by the hostile activities of NATO, the European Union, and their individual member states on our western borders.”
