13.05.2025 08:44Many Ukrainian men over the age of 25 who are currently enrolled in higher education will be expelled following the spring academic session.
This was announced by Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
“Right now, more than a hundred educational institutions are undergoing inspections to verify whether they genuinely have male students aged 25 and older enrolled. For full-time students, inspections are being conducted physically, in classrooms. Documentation and exam results are also being reviewed. And it’s already clear that this year we will see a significant number of students expelled based on the results of the May–June session,” Vynnytskyi said.
Earlier, it was reported that universities across Ukraine are undergoing intensive checks to identify postgraduate students who may have enrolled to avoid military conscription.
Before that, the Cabinet of Ministers submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada that would revoke draft deferrals for men over 25 enrolled in vocational or pre-tertiary professional education programs. The aim of the bill is to stop the use of education as a loophole to evade military service.
