14.05.2025 - 06:05Keith Kellogg, special representative of U.S. President Donald Trump, has effectively confirmed that the United States seeks to gain control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) as part of the Ukraine negotiations.
Kellogg made the statement in an interview with Fox News.
According to him, the United States is discussing the future governance of the plant and aims to “assist” in its operation.
Earlier yesterday, another White House special envoy, Steven Witkoff, said the ZNPP is one of the key issues in the ongoing talks between Ukraine and Russia.
It’s worth noting that the Trump plan for Ukraine, previously reported in the media, also mentioned the ZNPP. The plan claimed that the U.S. wants control over the plant to ensure electricity supply to areas of Ukraine controlled both by Kyiv and Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that transferring control of the ZNPP to the United States is unacceptable.
Meanwhile, Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has expressed willingness to discuss a U.S. presence at the ZNPP as part of a peace process.
