Ukrainians have started receiving summons from the tax authorities demanding explanations for funds received through payment systems

In Ukraine, residents have started receiving summonses from the tax authorities demanding explanations about the origin of money received through payment systems.

Photos of these summonses appeared on social media yesterday, and today their authenticity was confirmed by Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the Tax Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

He shared a screenshot showing a person being summoned to the tax office for receiving 200 hryvnias (approximately €4.80) via the Nova Pay system.

“A ‘happy letter’ was sent to an individual to appear at the tax office for suspected systematic illegal activity. I checked the registry — it turns out there were just two payments of 100 UAH (€2.40) each per month from NovaPay. That’s it… Systematic activity for 200 UAH?” reads the post cited by the lawmaker.

Hetmantsev believes the blame lies with individual inspectors, not the tax authority leadership.

“Instead of identifying truly unregistered businesses and dealing with them, are you indiscriminately sending ‘happy letters’ to everyone?” the MP wrote.

As a reminder, at the end of April, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft law on the taxation of goods sold through OLX, Prom, Rozetka, and other marketplaces.
