The UK claimed that Zelensky disrupted peace in Ukraine
26.06.2025 - 14:06U.S. President Donald Trump pushed Ukraine into the background at the NATO summit in The Hague.
This was reported by The New York Times (NYT).
“Ukraine was pushed to the background at this summit, even though President [of Ukraine] Volodymyr Zelensky met with Trump,” the article states.
According to the publication, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during his press conference, promised “continued support” for Ukraine in the form of funding and equipment. However, the summit communiqué did not mention the prospect of Ukraine’s future membership in the alliance, seemingly as another concession to Trump, who opposes it.
Liana Fix, a Europe expert at the Council on Foreign Relations, commented that in an ideal world, Ukraine and Russia should have been top priorities at the summit.
“To be perfectly honest, the summit was orchestrated in a way that prioritizes the security interests of NATO allies first, and only then addresses the situation in Ukraine,” she explained.
Earlier, Trump explained why he could not resolve the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours, acknowledging that the Ukrainian crisis is more complex than other confrontations.
