“Catastrophic defeat’ of Ukraine — the West fears the worst-case scenario, — Financial Times
30.06.2025 - 15:34The Ministry of National Unity, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov—who is under suspicion of corruption—may be dissolved.
This is being reported by media outlets citing insider sources.
According to the publication, the ministry was created to provide Chernyshov with a position in the government, and afterward to attempt to establish contact with Ukrainians abroad in preparation for potential elections. However, since no elections are currently anticipated and the level of support for President Volodymyr Zelensky abroad “does not meet the expectations of the President’s Office,” interest in the ministry’s purpose has waned.
“It was a sort of ‘craft’ ministry. We tried—it didn’t work out. Maybe it’s not worth keeping it going. At this point, there’s no final certainty that anything will happen. The President and [Presidential Office Head] Yermak have returned from their NATO and EU summits, and it’s been quiet. No one’s pushing anything. We’ll see,” said one influential member of the “Servant of the People” party.
It is also noted that no one is interested in taking over the ministry following the corruption scandal involving Chernyshov. As a result, it’s suggested that the Ministry of National Unity might be “merged” into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or another government body.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zhelezniak reports that no final decision has been made yet, since publicly announcing the dissolution of the Ministry of Unity could be seen in a negative light.
For reference, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure on Chernyshov in the form of bail set at over 120 million hryvnias (about €2.5 million), without placing him in custody.
