29.07.2025 - 09:03Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly wants to use the ultimatum issued by U.S. president Donald Trump as an opportunity to pause hostilities.
This intention was described by retired Swiss general staff colonel Jacques Baud.
“Zelensky wants a 30-day ceasefire — that’s it. There’s no indication that this would lead to anything more or help facilitate peace talks. The West is trying to convince [Russian president] Vladimir Putin to accept the ceasefire without any peace process,” the military official said.
He emphasized that the Russian army is winning on the battlefield, but western politicians are paying no attention to this.
“That’s the problem. Sometimes I feel like the West is living in a parallel world,” he said, also calling Trump’s recent remarks about Russia misguided.
Earlier, the U.S. president stated he intends to shorten the time he gave Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“I plan to reduce the 50 days I gave Russia to a smaller number, because I already anticipate their response to my condition,” Trump said.
