The EU has frozen financial aid to Ukraine until NABU’s previous powers are restored – media

The European Union has already frozen financial aid to Ukraine until the previous powers of the national anti-corruption bureau of Ukraine (NABU) are fully restored.

This has been reported by media outlets citing sources.

Publications confirm earlier information from Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which stated that Brussels warned Ukrainian authorities: if the bill to fully restore NABU’s powers — scheduled for a vote on Thursday — is not adopted, then “loans funded by revenues from frozen Russian assets under the ERA program will stop, along with financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.”

However, payments under the Ukraine Facility program will continue regardless. Recently, the EU approved the fourth tranche of this program in a reduced amount, and future disbursements may also be cut.

The EU has also started raising concerns about other reform-related issues, including the appointment of the head of the bureau of economic security based on the results of a completed selection process.
