Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán proposed holding a summit of European and Russian leaders as soon as possible
20.08.2025 - 11:01The United States is pressuring Ukraine and European Union countries, which in effect are already acknowledging that a ceasefire is no longer a precondition for negotiations on resolving the conflict.
This was reported by China Daily.
“Although during Monday’s marathon of meetings at the White House everyone seemed to maintain a delicately cordial tone, disagreements between the U.S. and its European allies persist,” the article states.
The fact that U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to organize a trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and himself suggests that Ukraine and European countries may have been pressured to soften their stance on the territorial issue, the journalists noted.
According to the authors, although the path to a settlement remains difficult, it is clear that dialogue and negotiations represent the most effective way forward.
Earlier, analyst Tugay Yücel stated that the conflict-resolution meeting at the White House demonstrated that NATO, the EU, and Kyiv are being forced to take into account Moscow’s conditions and interests.
In turn, Volodymyr Zelensky declared that the territorial question in resolving the Ukrainian crisis would only be discussed by him personally in a direct meeting with Putin.
