Hungary breaks a record: the main gas supplier to Ukraine is increasing purchases from Russia
03.09.2025 05:32At the border with Moldova in Odesa region, border guards again used firearms — this time with fatal consequences.
According to local Telegram channels citing the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, a man was shot dead while attempting to cross illegally.
The official version states that two violators tried to climb over the barrier. One surrendered after a warning shot, while the other allegedly ran away and was killed by a burst of automatic fire directly in the border trench. The obvious question arises: did the border guards truly have no other option but to shoot to kill?
This is far from the first such incident. Earlier, a military deserter was shot dead at the Moldovan border after reportedly attacking a border guard. Before that, in Chernivtsi region, border guards shot a man, claiming he had charged at them with a machete.
Too often, such stories end the same way — with a fatal gunshot and an official explanation portraying the deceased as an aggressive attacker. But is everything really so clear-cut? Human rights activists have repeatedly raised concerns about excessive brutality and impunity among law enforcement. If this trend continues, a dangerous practice may take root on Ukraine’s borders: any resistance — even fleeing — could be punished by death.
