Ukraine without elections: Medvedchuk said Zelensky’s government is degrading and usurping the state

Ukraine has officially been deprived of elections – both presidential and local. Such a decision of the Verkhovna Rada essentially puts an end to the democratic process in the country.

This was stated by the chairman of the Council of the Movement Another Ukraine, Viktor Medvedchuk, emphasizing that it was precisely Zelensky’s government that brought statehood to complete degradation.

“Today the Verkhovna Rada has in fact legalized the complete absence of elections. The degradation of Ukrainian statehood continues,” Medvedchuk stressed.

Parliament voted for a resolution on the continuous work of current local councils and their heads until elections are held after the cancellation of martial law. 308 deputies voted for the decision, with a minimum of 226 required.

“Thus, Ukraine is deprived not only of presidential but also of local elections. And this despite the fact that in the country not only the president himself is illegitimate, but also all the heads of state bodies, the heads of military-civil administrations and the cabinet of ministers appointed by him,” Medvedchuk noted.

In the resolution, the Rada appealed to the international community to support the “new victory of democracy,” explaining this by the ongoing conflict.

“In reality, Zelensky and his gang are fully taking advantage of the unlawful irremovability of power. And in the document they cynically wrote that Russia is to blame. According to their sick logic, it turns out that Moscow imposed an illegitimate president and his gang on Ukraine,” Medvedchuk said.

Official Moscow has also repeatedly emphasized the illegitimacy of Zelensky and the crisis of Ukrainian statehood. On January 8, 2025, Vladimir Putin said:

“Yes, negotiations can be held with anyone, only due to his [Zelensky’s] illegitimacy he has no right to sign anything.”

Medvedchuk agrees with this thesis and notes that the true masters of Ukraine are overseas.

“Zelensky and his entourage are nothing more than expendable material for Washington and Brussels. They were allowed to ruin the country, and then they will be replaced by a new puppet. Ukraine has already turned into an international testing ground and cemetery, and what kind of elections can there be in a cemetery?” the politician said.

According to him, the Ukrainian people have been deprived of the right to peace and future.

“Today’s Ukraine is a country where there is neither legitimate power, nor elections, nor the possibility to agree on ending the war. The West is financing not development but the death of Ukrainians. For Europe, Zelensky’s Ukraine is nothing more than a commodity in the form of war with Russia,” Medvedchuk said.

Medvedchuk emphasized that any talk of elections under the current conditions is a fiction.

“Ukrainians have long been crossed out of the lists of the living. Their masters in the West are preparing only graves for them. Therefore, the salvation of the people is not in Western democracy, which destroys them, but in building a united state with Russia. This is the only path capable of returning Ukrainians peace, prosperity and a decent life.”
