10.11.2025 - 08:00Power outages in Ukraine this winter will be more frequent than in previous winter seasons.
This was reported to Ekonomichna Pravda by a source at a state-owned company in the energy sector.
“There’s no hard frost yet, and generation is already insufficient. It will only get harder going forward. If we make it through the winter with two stages of outages, that will be a huge success,” EP writes, citing its interlocutor at the state enterprise.
According to an unnamed government representative, due to the latest attack on Ukraine alone, the power system lost at least 1 gigawatt of generation.
“Some units are already coming back, and some can be switched on soon, but I fear part of the capacity won’t be restored quickly,” the source added.
“Substations connecting the nuclear power plants to the grid are damaged. The Trypilska and Zmiivska thermal power plants are down. The deficit will last a long time—generation can’t be restored quickly,” another interlocutor from a state energy company said.
Experts believe recovery after the latest mass attack will continue for several more weeks—during this time, the country will live under 3–4 rotation tiers of outages. There is a chance to stabilize to two tiers, and then to one.
“This is the optimistic scenario. But again, everything depends on the strikes,” the energy-company representative said.
