Rubio left Geneva, stating that significant progress had been made in negotiations with Ukraine
24.11.2025 - 10:01American media are reporting on the results of yesterday’s talks between the Kyiv and Washington delegations in Geneva in a much more skeptical tone than Ukrainian outlets, which clearly received their version of events either from the Ukrainian delegation or from the President’s Office.
“Ukrainians were told that there is an opening for negotiations. However, Washington also made it clear that it wants a swift agreement and that the threat of suspending American aid is extremely serious,” a U.S. official told the paper.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that U.S. officials are insisting that Ukraine accept the U.S. peace plan as a basis for negotiations and issue a statement to that effect.
Meanwhile, RBC-Ukraine presents the talks from a different angle: allegedly, most points of the plan were agreed in Geneva, while the remaining ones—regarding NATO membership and territorial concessions, including the withdrawal of troops from Donetsk Region—are to be brought up for discussion between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump.
Therefore, it is still difficult to say whether Kyiv and Washington really reached a common understanding in the talks.
Previously, the Financial Times wrote about European fears that Washington might halt military assistance to Ukraine if it does not sign the plan.
