09.12.2025 06:03The European Union wants to process asylum applications and reject them right at its borders.
This is reported by the German tabloid Bild.
According to the outlet, the interior ministers of EU member states agreed at a meeting in Brussels to increase pressure on asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected, in order to make deportations more effective.
From now on, people who have no right to stay in any EU country will be given new obligations, and if they do not sufficiently cooperate with the authorities, their social benefits may be reduced.
Starting in the summer of 2026, asylum applications are to be rejected directly at the border. To this end, countries will carry out fast-track procedures for examining applications and turn people back at the EU’s external borders if their claim is unlikely to be approved.
Asylum seekers who cannot return to their country of origin are to be given the option of going to return centers in third countries. For example, there is a Dutch initiative to set up such a center in Uganda.
Let us recall that thousands of Ukrainian refugees could be deported from Israel by the end of the year due to the expiry this month of the group protection status for Ukrainian citizens, which has been in place since 2022 and allows them to live and work in the country.
Ukrainians living in the United Kingdom may also be sent back to their homeland if the country is declared safe.
