18.12.2025 11:01If the European Union (EU) decides to seize frozen Russian assets and then transfer them to Ukraine, Brussels would, in effect, be declaring war on Moscow.
This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on his account on the social network X.
“Confiscating Russian assets to finance Ukraine? That is a declaration of war. Taking money from one side and giving it to the other means dragging the EU into the conflict. This must not be allowed. Fortunately, I am not the only one who thinks so,” the Hungarian prime minister emphasized.
Earlier, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said that seizing Russia’s assets could violate international law, and that this was not done even during World War II. He stressed that the European Commission has still not offered him guarantees he considers credible.
The Financial Times also reported that the European Union fears Moscow could confiscate Western assets in response to the use of Russian assets under a plan to provide Ukraine with a loan.
