17.01.2026 13:05In 2026, peace will not come to Ukraine because a return to pre-war conditions is impossible.
This was stated in an interview with TASS by Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the “Another Ukraine” movement and former leader of the “Opposition Platform — For Life” party, which is banned in Ukraine.
“No, there won’t be [peace]. Some people mistakenly think that peace means a return to pre-war times and hope everything will go back to how it was before,” he said.
He expressed confidence that fighting will not stop until the “war in people’s heads” ends. In his words, the “party of war” in Ukraine, Europe, and the United States remains strong and wants to continue the conflict with Russia.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged disagreements on some issues during talks with the United States. He said Ukraine is taking the initiative in the negotiations and that he is defending his country’s interests.
