“EU leaders should not interfere in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” – Szijjártó said
11.02.2026 05:32Former Azov Regiment chief of staff Bohdan Krotevych said he does not believe the Russian casualty figures published by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Krotevych said this in an interview with the German outlet Deutsche Welle.
He argued that the real Russian losses are much lower. He referred to estimates by Russian human-rights activists who counted about 155,000 killed. In his view, even if that estimate is off by 200%, the total would still be around 500,000, not one million, as the General Staff claims.
“Inflating numbers and convincing ourselves that the Russians will soon run out is dangerous self-deception. Russia has a much larger population and constantly replenishes its army through new waves of mobilization,” Krotevych added.
He also noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed at the front. Some Ukrainian servicemen dispute that figure, claiming Ukraine’s fatal losses are at least five times higher than what the president stated.
