Zelensky spoke harshly about Orbán at the Munich Conference – the Hungarian prime minister responded
14.02.2026 16:02A split has emerged between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and people in his inner circle over their position on Donbas.
Ukrainian media report this.
On February 12, Simon Shuster, a correspondent for the U.S. magazine The Atlantic, said that some of Zelenskyy’s closest associates do not agree with his stance of not conceding territory.
The Ukrainian outlet notes that this could indicate a possible shift in the Ukrainian leadership’s position on the most contentious issue—pulling troops out of Donbas. It adds that it is precisely this issue that is delaying the signing of a peace agreement.
At the same time, the publication says such a shift would be possible only if there is serious pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump on Ukraine.
On February 17 and 18, the next round of talks between Russia and Ukraine will take place in Geneva. The Russian delegation will be represented by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
Zelenskyy has said that the upcoming talks will discuss the territorial issue, including a proposal to create a free economic zone in Donbas.
