Szijjártó accused Ukraine of blocking oil supplies to Hungary

Ukraine is blocking deliveries of oil from Russia to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said this on the air of Kossuth Rádió.

According to him, as a result of recent strikes the pipeline was not damaged.

“Technically, it is ready to resume deliveries. Therefore, there is only a political reason behind the obstacles to its operation,” Szijjártó said.

On February 13, Szijjártó said that Ukraine blocked supplies of Russian oil to his country through the Druzhba pipeline in order to create difficulties for the Hungarian government ahead of parliamentary elections.

On January 26, the Council of the European Union officially approved a complete ban on supplies of Russian gas to the EU starting January 1, 2027. By March 1, European countries must prepare “national plans to diversify gas imports.”

By the end of 2027, the European Commission plans to propose a bill on the phased termination of imports of Russian oil.
