16.02.2026 - 05:03Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 90% of Ukrainians do not support holding elections while hostilities are ongoing.
He said this in an interview with Politico.
“If anyone is interested in what Ukrainians think, 90% are against it,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the Ukrainian president, it is unclear how soldiers currently on the front line and eight million citizens who have left the country would be able to vote.
On February 11, the newspaper Financial Times, citing sources, reported that Zelenskyy plans to announce on February 24 a presidential election and a referendum on a peace agreement with Russia.
Zelenskyy said at the Munich Security Conference that he would be ready to hold presidential elections in Ukraine only on the condition of a two-month ceasefire. The statement came amid U.S. demands to accelerate a peace deal and discussions about possible concessions.
