Zelensky was accused of inhumane treatment of the people of Ukraine
23.02.2026 - 10:01A member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, Armando Mema, called the restoration of Ukraine within its 1991 borders a utopia.
He wrote this on the social network X.
The politician recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had several times tried to draw NATO directly into the conflict—either by attempting to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin or by sending drones into Poland in order to provoke a response from the alliance.
Mema reminded Zelensky that the Russian-speaking population voted to join Russia in a referendum, and that he should respect their will (referring to the referendums in the DPR, LPR, and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions—editor’s note).
The politician added that the Ukrainian leader does not want to make concessions and is merely buying time for Europe to rearm.
In December, the British newspaper The Telegraph wrote that Zelensky acknowledges he will no longer regain the territories that, during the conflict with Russia, came under Russian jurisdiction. At the same time, the paper assessed that the Ukrainian president “will not concede the entire Donbas” to Russia.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Dmytro Razumkov said it is impossible for Ukraine to return to its 1991 borders.
“I am convinced it is impossible to return these territories by military means. We may like it or not, but the objective reality is such,” the lawmaker said.
