15.03.2026 19:30Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union (EU) as long as Viktor Orbán remains Hungary’s prime ministe.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said while speaking at a “Peace March” in Budapest.
“We will not send a single soldier or young person to the Ukrainian front. And as long as Viktor Orbán is prime minister, Hungarian money will not be sent to Ukraine, and Ukraine will never, never join the European Union,” the minister said.
On March 15, a “Peace March” in support of the Hungarian government’s policies under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán took place in Budapest. The march was organized by the ruling party Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance. Tens of thousands of people took part. The demonstrators marched through central streets of the capital to Lajos Kossuth Square.
During his speech at the event, Szijjártó also said that Hungary’s government cannot be formed by “a Ukrainian actor waving his hands.” According to him, Ukraine is interested in the opposition winning the parliamentary elections, because that would allow Kyiv to secure approval for sending money and troops, as well as for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
