16.03.2026 05:03Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he does not rule out the alliance’s collapse during the current presidential term of U.S. President Donald Trump.
He said this in an interview with CBC.
Stoltenberg also noted that NATO is unlikely to become even more deeply drawn into the U.S. and Israeli campaign against Iran, but he warned of significant economic consequences from that conflict.
Earlier, Trump said the United States is no longer spending money on military aid to Ukraine. He claimed this became possible because America’s NATO allies increased defense spending to 5% of GDP.
In late July last year, Trump said the U.S. and the EU had reached an agreement under which European countries would pay 100% of the cost of all military equipment. The White House chief emphasized that most of the weapons would go to Ukraine, while the money received from Europe would be spent on U.S. defense companies.
