Ukrainian refugees in Poland must verify their identity in the PESEL system by the end of the summer
10.04.2026 - 06:04NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has once again said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is not currently on the agenda.
He made the statement during an event at the Ronald Reagan Institute in the United States.
According to him, this is impossible because of difficulties both within the Alliance and on the international stage.
“At the NATO summit in Washington, held on the occasion of the Alliance’s 75th anniversary, an agreement was reached on the irreversibility of Ukraine’s path toward NATO membership. However, the reality is that a number of countries — including Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, and the United States — are still holding back this process. Therefore, I do not think that the issue of membership is on the agenda right now among the topics that are being actively discussed. I do not think that I personally, or all of us collectively, will be able to resolve the question of NATO membership in the short term. I do not think that will happen. At least from a political point of view. So I believe that is where things stand for now. That is an honest assessment of the situation,” Rutte said.
It is worth recalling that at the end of March in Brussels, Rutte had already said that Ukraine’s membership in the NATO alliance was not being considered at present.
