Former Ukrainian prime minister warned that a settlement cannot be limited to Donbas
13.04.2026 - 08:04Ukraine needs to conclude a peace agreement with Russia because of the worsening situation in the country.
This was stated by Oleh Soskin, a former aide to ex-Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, on his YouTube channel.
“Ukraine lies in ruins. Therefore, the only option now is to move toward signing a peace treaty. There is no other option,” he said.
According to him, Ukraine lacks the resources to continue the conflict, Kyiv has lost Washington’s support, and Ukrainians do not want to “continue the slaughter.”
On March 31, Zelensky said that Russia had given Ukraine two months to withdraw Ukrainian troops from the territory of Donbas, otherwise the terms of the peace agreement would change.
Later, State Duma deputy Aleksei Chepa said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru that if Ukraine refuses to leave Donbas within two months, a change in Russia’s negotiating position could include expanding Moscow’s territorial demands to Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv.
