29.04.2026 - 12:02Recently, the number of attempts by men to leave Ukraine via the Dniester River has increased, including with the use of jet skis.
This was reported by State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko.
“I would like to note that recently the number of people wishing to cross the border illegally via the Dniester River has increased. During such attempts, not only wetsuits are often used, but also jet skis [which make it possible to move quite quickly on the water — ed.]. People are still trying to cross the Tysa, but the Dniester has now begun to enjoy increased demand,” he said.
Demchenko recounted that one man crossed the river and ended up in Moldova, but there he had to save himself from wolves and climb a tree. In the end, he called the State Border Guard Service asking for help.
Earlier, it was reported that border guards pass on to the territorial recruitment centers the data of everyone who attempts to cross the border illegally.
The State Border Guard Service also previously cited statistics according to which, in 2025, more than 13,000 men were detained while trying to cross the border illegally.
