Polish lawmaker says Zelensky remains in power only thanks to Warsaw
03.06.2026 16:07Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the United States has still not responded to his letter requesting an increase in deliveries of air defense systems, including interceptors to counter ballistic missiles.
He made the statement in an interview with the American television channel CBS.
According to Zelensky, he sent a personal appeal to the White House and the U.S. Congress, noting that ballistic missiles pose a serious threat on the battlefield. The Ukrainian leader stressed that Kyiv is in urgent need of increased deliveries but has encountered a production deficit within the United States itself.
“We do not see enough missiles in United States production. 60, 65 missiles per month for today’s challenges — that is nothing. Russia knows this,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president also noted that the difficult situation is compounded by the United States shifting its attention to the Middle East. In addition, Zelensky acknowledged that Washington has not yet granted him permission to use licenses for the production of Patriot missiles in Ukraine.
Zelensky expressed hope that the United States would still respond to his appeal, and noted that Kyiv is ready to share its own technologies with America — in particular, low-cost interceptors and AI drones — in exchange for missile defense systems.
On May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking to journalists at the Kremlin, said that a meeting with Zelensky in a third country would be possible once peace negotiations reached the final stretch. On May 29, Putin said it was impossible to name a specific timeline for the end of the conflict in Ukraine, but that the situation on the battlefield gave Russia grounds to speak of approaching that moment.
On May 28, former Russian Prime Minister Sergei Stepashin recalled that Putin had unambiguously formulated the conditions for ending the special operation: the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, must be part of Russia.
