AfD Bundestag deputy: “Security is only possible together with Russia”

Steffen Kotré, a member of the German Bundestag for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has said that European security is only possible together with Russia, not against it. He made the statement in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Kotré, “many ideologically motivated decisions directed against Russia” are being made at the EU level. European countries, including Germany, prefer to use aggressive rhetoric toward Russia. The deputy believes that states are not yet ready to choose what he called the “right course” — a course toward peaceful cooperation.

“Security is only possible together with Russia, not against Russia. Therefore, it would be logical to resume dialogue,” Kotré said.

On June 5, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated at a press conference that he was ready for negotiations with Russia on Ukraine. On the same day, the publication Die Zeit, citing sources, reported that the German government had been intensively preparing for talks with Russia over the preceding weeks.
