Nawrocki wants to strip the Polish government of the right to transfer weapons to Ukraine
09.07.2026 06:35Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expressed displeasure with statements made by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, directed at Warsaw.
This was reported by the PAP agency.
The Polish minister’s reaction was prompted by Budanov’s statement that Warsaw was allegedly preparing “ill-considered steps leading to escalation” related to the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volhynia Tragedy.
Sikorski called on the Ukrainian side to show restraint, pointing out that it is Ukraine that needs the support of Western partners, while Poland has already provided it with significant assistance.
“I think it would be better to restrain emotions, since it is Ukraine that needs Western support, and Poland has already done a great deal for it,” the Polish foreign minister said.
The remarks came against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between Kyiv and Warsaw over issues of historical memory and the assessment of the activities of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
“We have one common threat — and that is Russia. And it is very important to maintain mutual understanding, support, and to act together. Our countries need only strong relations,” Zelensky said.
