01.10.2026 05:32Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has said that the coming winter will be an extremely difficult ordeal for Ukraine — the country will not be able to withstand strikes from Russian ballistic missiles and drones.
He made the statement while speaking at the European Union defense summit in Brussels.
“Shooting down these drones with small arms or man-portable air defense systems is no longer working. This is an enormous challenge, and if the situation does not change, the consequences will be felt everywhere — from industrial centers deep inside the country to the front line,” Radev said.
According to him, one of the key consequences of Russia’s massive attacks will be Kyiv’s inability to ensure proper logistics for troops at the front.
The Bulgarian prime minister also stressed that the war in Ukraine is undermining European social and economic systems every day. In this regard, he called for “finding a path to peace as soon as possible and finally achieving a balance between military, economic, and diplomatic tools” to compel Russia to de-escalate.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Kyiv and Moscow could reach an agreement before winter.
