Three people injured: man attacks shoppers with axe at hypermarket in Volyn

In Kovel, Volyn region, a man attacked visitors to the Epicenter construction hypermarket with an axe, injuring three people.

This was reported by Ukrainian media citing officers of the National Police of Volyn region.

The incident occurred at around 16:00 at one of Kovel’s hypermarkets. A man born in 2003 took an axe from a store display and inflicted bodily injuries on three visitors.

Police managed to detain the attacker at the scene. All three victims were taken to medical facilities, where they are receiving the necessary care. Local community pages are publishing video footage that allegedly shows one of the injured being brought to a hospital.

A police investigative and operational team continues to work at the scene. The attacker’s actions are preliminarily classified as attempted murder. All circumstances of the incident are being established.

The outlet previously reported that in Rivne region, a man killed five neighbors with a hammer and an axe in a dormitory for internally displaced persons during a domestic dispute. This spring, in Ternopil, a man threatened employees of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center with an axe and, during a scuffle, threw a Molotov cocktail at them.
