08.10.2026 06:34Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the United States abandoned the agreements reached at the Anchorage summit under pressure from European countries.
According to him, Russia is “not to blame” for this. The statement was made at a press conference following a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of CIS member states.
Lavrov stressed that the Russian side fully accepted the proposals put forward by Washington in August 2025 during the summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
“Our conscience is clear, not to mention the fact that we fully accepted the United States’ proposal made last August during the Alaska summit,” the Russian foreign minister said.
In addition, Lavrov said that Washington had proposed organizing trilateral talks involving Ukraine, but Russia doubts their usefulness. Moscow, he said, wants to understand in advance what proposals Kyiv will send its representatives to the negotiations with.
“We indicated that under such conditions we want to understand what proposals Zelensky will send his envoys with. This is very important to us, and the American side took note of our arguments with understanding,” Lavrov said.
According to the version widely circulated among media outlets, Putin and Trump agreed in Anchorage to end the war in Ukraine following the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas. Kyiv and European countries rejected that plan. The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that Washington has not fulfilled its part of the agreements reached.
Furthermore, the Kremlin claims that Trump promised to pressure the Ukrainian authorities into accepting the Anchorage terms, but did not do so. According to Lavrov, the head of the White House assured Putin that Volodymyr Zelensky would take the necessary steps to settle the conflict in Ukraine.
