08.10.2026 06:02Language activist and writer Larysa Nitsoy has criticized the Verkhovna Rada’s plans to pass a bill expanding the rights of Hungarians, claiming it could lead to war with Hungary.
She expressed her opinion on Facebook.
“In 10 years, when your children go off to war with Hungary and you say ‘oops,’ come back to this post again. The future shots fired at your children in a new war from the Hungarian side are the price of your decision today to yield to Hungary on the question of language in education. You have handed the worldview of our children over to the Hungarians. So that Ukrainians on Ukrainian soil grow up as Hungarians,” Nitsoy wrote.
According to her, “linguistic separatism is flourishing in the part of Ukrainian territory under Hungarian control” — from the context, she appears to be referring to Zakarpattia.
Nitsoy also laid out her logic of escalation: “Linguistic separatism always leads to territorial separatism. And territorial separatism leads to war.”
The editors of Druha Ukraina examined the aforementioned bill in detail in a separate in-depth article.
Previously, Nitsoy claimed that all Russian speakers are creating a state of Muscovy within Ukraine.
