A bill has been introduced in the Verkhovna Rada, according to which prisoners will be released for mobilization

The text of the bill is not yet available. The initiative was put forward by the head of the presidential party “Servant of the People” Elena Shulyak and several of her colleagues. Therefore, it is likely that the bill will be quickly adopted and signed by the president. Given the problems with mobilizing the civilian population, the authorities intend to replenish the ranks of the army in this way.

It is worth recalling that back in January, in the initial version of the bill on toughening mobilization, voluntary mobilization for conditionally sentenced individuals was provided for. However, the then Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhny opposed such an idea. Journalists, citing sources, reported that Zaluzhny allegedly commented on this initiative: “Is the army for bad people?”

Later, Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska stated that there are thousands of prisoners and convicts in Ukraine who are ready to become servicemen. At the same time, according to him, those prisoners who violated military discipline, committed crimes related to the performance of their military duty, as well as crimes against the state, will not be mobilized.
